Horse Racing Tips TODAY: Chelmsford, Ludlow and Newcastle

01st Apr 2019

SMACK WATER JACK (nap, 2.15) can land a blow on the bookies by picking up the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Novices’ Hurdle at Ludlow.

The Olly Murphy-trained runner will have the services of Richard Johnson in the saddle and had looked a progressive type before suffering a reverse in a Grade Three at Sandown last night. He was flying high that day and back in calmer waters can have the measure of main dangers Dr Sanderson and Rapper.

SNAPDRAGON FIRE (nb, 3.20) is another on the Ludlow card to take the eye. Again, Johnson will be doing the steering, and should find himself in the winner’s enclosure once more.

Tom Lacey’s gelding is in fine form and scored over course and distance last time, having ten lengths in hand of Buck’s Bin’s. He will need a career-best performance to take this, but don’t rule out further improvement from this fairly lightly-raced six-year-old. Tim Rocco, lurking dangerously at the foot of the handicap,  is bidding for a hat-trick and may give the selection most to think about. Court Royal could also run well.

Staying at the Shropshire course, DIEU BENISSE (treble, 5.30) might not look an obvious pick, having fallen on both her outings this season, but she was running well before exiting each time and is sure to have been well schooled by her trainer Nicky Henderson since. The Seven Barrows runner is expected to recoup losses - she was well backed each time - in the Racing To School Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Tom George’s Darling Du Large went very close at Newcastle last month and rates the biggest threat.
